When I read the original novel Sultan Razia, I realised intensely that the Marathi speaking audience is quite unaware of the history of Delhi and its surrounding areas. Furthermore, this novel is based on the character of the first lady Turk ruler, Razia. A few years back, I accidently happened to stumble upon a very very old, moth eaten book, entittled “Jahanara Begum – Life story of a mughal Princess. It was claimed by the authoress, Andrea Buttenschon , that the book was the translation of the original Persian manuscript hidden behind a marble loft of Jasmin Minar in Agra fort and discovered by her. I read it in one sitting, non stop, as if mesmerized and decided to bring the story of Jahanara in Marathi.
